Walk The South West Coastal Path
The best way to appreciate the natural beauty around Dartmouth is simply on foot. The South West Coastal Path is the longest National Trail in the country at 630 miles – the South Devon stretch runs from Plymouth to Lyme Regis and passes through some of the most spectacular coastal scenery in England.
You don’t need to tackle the whole thing. There are routes within ten miles of Dartmouth to suit every age and ability – from a gentle afternoon stroll along the estuary to a full-day clifftop hike with hidden coves along the way. Spend A Day At Blackpool Sands
No summer in Dartmouth is complete without a visit to Blackpool Sands – one of the most beautiful beaches on the entire South Devon coast and a Blue Flag award winner. The golden shingle beach, crystal-clear water and stunning wooded valley backdrop make it genuinely one of the prettiest spots in Devon.
You can swim, paddleboard, kayak or simply find a spot and stay there for the afternoon. The on-site café serves great food and drinks with views straight out to sea.

Browse The Good Food & Artisan Market
Held on the second Saturday of every month in Dartmouth’s Old Market Square, the Good Food and Artisan Market runs from 9:30am to 3:30pm and is one of those lovely, unhurried summer morning activities that sums up what a Dartmouth holiday feels like.
Fresh local produce, Dartmoor honey, sourdough, homemade cakes and jams, artisan crafts, pottery and plants – it’s a genuinely lovely place to spend a couple of hours and stock up for a self-catering stay.

Port Of Dartmouth Royal Regatta
Perhaps the biggest annual event in Dartmouth Devon, the Royal Regatta, which takes place every August, definitely lives up to its reputation of being the ‘best in the west’. These regattas have been taking place since 1822, but each year seems to be more impressive than the last.
With thousands of visitors from around the region, there are plenty of water-based and shoreside sporting events to spectate, as well as endless family entertainment and fun, such as crab fishing, pavement art, fancy dress and treasure hunts, to keep the little ones entertained throughout!
You can also expect lots of great music, as there are some fantastic open air concerts taking place during the week. The Regatta is free to attend, as the committee rely mostly on sponsorships and donations from the public.
Visit Dartmouth Castle
Perched on the edge of the River Dart estuary, Dartmouth Castle is one of the finest coastal fortresses in England. Dating back to the 14th century, it guarded the narrow entrance to the Dart for over 600 years and the views from the battlements – out over the river, the town and the open sea – are spectacular.
It’s a short walk from the town quay or you can take the scenic little ferry across for a proper arrival. Genuinely family-friendly, and one of those places that makes history feel tangible rather than dusty.
