The first thing many guests on a self catering holiday in Devon will be where they can stock up on food for the days ahead. Dinner, trail snacks, a little wine for after the children have gone to bed, all of these can be considered basic essentials. To help you get settled into our Dartmouth self catering accommodation as quickly as possible, we’ve prepared this cheat sheet of top spots in the nearby area to pick up some food.

Only a scarce two minute drive or a brisk 15 minute walk from Norton holiday park is a full-size Sainsbury’s supermarket, an ideal option for picking up some supplies for the first evening and next morning when you first arrive at our self catered accommodation. With all the basics easily available and at good prices, stopping here on your way to Norton Park or shortly after arriving will ensure there’s no complaining from either the children or adults about hungry tummies.

Another great choice for your first night on a Dartmouth self catering holiday is the Lidl just on the edge of the town itself. Again, only a short distance from Norton holiday park, three minutes by car and a 19 minute walk, Lidl is perfect for those who are looking to spend a little less on their holiday supplies. Their opening hours are nearly as flexible as Sainsbury’s, so you should have no issues with finding time to stop off here after arriving at our self catered chalets.

Slightly more elusive, but still well worth the attempt to catch, is the Dartmouth Farmers Market. It is held only on the second Saturday of the month, but is home to a wide range of local, artisan products ranging from fresh sourdough bread to Dartmoor honey. If your self catering holiday manages to coincide with this event, then we would highly recommend spending an afternoon checking out the stalls and trying some of the many sweet and savoury goods on offer.

Every coastal town will take pride in its seafood, and Dartmouth has more reason for pride than most. For decades now Dartmouth has attracted anglers from all over Devon to its coast for the high quality and quantity of Hook Bass, Wrasse, Turbot, and in particular, Plaice. If they head further out to the off-shore reefs, chances are they’ll encounter Conger Eels and Cod as well. If you don’t fancy turning self catering into self preservation by trying to hook all these for yourself, you can easily pay Wild Food Devon a visit, a fishmonger in Dartmouth town centre, to enjoy all the fruits of the sea that the area has to offer without the need to go angling yourself.

Perhaps it’s just us, but fresh baked goods in the morning are one of the greatest joys of a self catered holiday. Open all week and only an eight minute drive from Norton Park, the Cornish Bakery is an excellent place to pick up some fresh morning pastries, as well as any pies or other snacks you might want to pack for a day of exploring.
