Visit Dartmouth Castle
Dartmouth is situated at the mouth of the River Dart, and in its heyday was one of the most prestigious and important ports in Devon. Nowadays you can still visit the 14th-century castle built on either side of the mouth of the river. The ancient castle juts out from the cliff and can be accessed by foot from the cliff path. The English Heritage Site of Dartmouth Castle is a must-visit for anyone taking holidays in Dartmouth. Offering spectacular views of Dartmouth harbour and out to sea no matter the time of year, the castle and the church attached is well worth the visit on your Dartmouth holidays.
South West Coast Path
The UK’s longest, and in our opinion the most beautiful coast path, passes through Dartmouth. The 630-mile route around the South West of England offers spectacular views of the countryside and of course the sea. If you’re keen on walking holidays, or you just want to do a gentle stroll across the coast paths, Dartmouth, (especially our range of Norton Park Chalets) is a fantastic base for you to enjoy the renowned coast path.
Dartmouth has two sections of the coast path to choose from. The easier of the two is the ten-mile walk to Torcross, a beautiful South Devon Village which is home to some beautiful calm beaches and some fantastic eateries. This coast path takes you across luscious fields and is a gentle walk, perfect for all the family. Or, if you’re up for a challenge, the coast path to Brixham gives you glorious views of the east bank of the River Dart, while you hike across the river’s east banks. But, once you arrive in Brixham you can visit Berry Head, home to the largest guillemot colony on the South Coast.
Dartmouth Steam Railway
Nothing beats seeing the beautiful scenery of the South Hams than viewing it through the windows of a traditional steam train! Step back in time and travel the 6.7 miles from Kingswear to Paignton, with the wooded hills on one side and the beautiful coastline on the other, paying a visit to the Dartmouth steam railway will be a hit with all the family on your holiday. Book a round-robin ticket and enjoy the relaxing mode of travel to and from Paignton, or travel one way by train and enjoy all the delights that Paignton has to offer, including the Paignton zoo, beach and more!
Beach Day

Stop by church cove, just beneath the historic church and castle, this natural cove is home to rock pools and crystal clear water.
